"Never Put Aside Love " | Harison Xavier

She untied the knot of her spinal brace belt for her back pain in the morning. I did not feel anything special as it was one or two years since I started hearing the story of this pain. As usual, I said, let's go to the hospital. I know her pain will go away. She refused because she knows very well that I have no cash. I have taken her to the hospital once before because I could not bear to hear her pain. Then the doctor said she needed an MRI scan. On hearing this she was the first to come out saying that it needs ten thousand more rupees. I couldn't afford it back then too.  Then her usual dialogue was  "I am in pain!! " and my usual response was "Let's  go to the hospital." Today without any hesitation she was ready to leave and I got ready too. When we got there, the doctor wrote me some tests. When the final result came, the doctor said with a sigh that she had cancer inside her spine. At first I did not understand what I heard. When I look...

The Burned Toast | John Thiessen

Image
One evening my mother made dinner after a hard day's work. She put a plate of eggs, salad and burnt toast in front of my father I immediately noticed, the burnt toast and, I was waiting to see if he was going to complain about it, but my father started to eat them, smiling and asked me how I spent my day at school. My mom apologized to my dad for the burnt toast. I will never forget his response to her: "Honey, I love burnt toast!" Later when I went to bed and my dad came over to kiss me goodnight, I asked him if he really liked the burnt toast? He hugged me and said, "Your mother has had a difficult day and she is really tired. She went out of her way to prepare this meal for us, why blame her and hurt her. "Burnt toast never hurt anyone; but words can be very painful! " We have to know how to appreciate what others do for us, even if it's not perfect, because it's the intention to do well that counts, and no one is perfect. -John Thiessen I lov...

I had a very productive and engaging sales management class today, I was so happy about the task we got  today from Giridaran sir, which is to find 10 or more negotiation techniques or lessons from a short video clip from the movie The Godfather. I was hooked. I have both read this book and also watched the movie. The following 10 lessons I learned on negotiation from the movie.    Intro : One of the best movies in the history of cinema by Maria Puzo, still considered the best. However I love the book better, the movie could not come up to the level of the book so is the case with most movies. But still the movie is something special and there is something more than just a movie.    After watching the above video I came up with the below points.  1. Always negotiate at the position of power : Vito calls Sollozzo to Vito’s place where Sollozzo is playing at Vito’s home ground so the Sollozzo don’t have any power over Vito. This is a key method to use while n...
